1. Introduction
Welcome to Blanket. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the digital estate planning platform available at blanket.ae (the "Platform"). These Terms constitute a binding legal agreement between you and the relevant Blanket group entity responsible for providing the applicable Services, as set out below (collectively, "Blanket," "we," "us," or "our"):
- Blanket Technology FZE, a UAE Free Zone Establishment (License No. 4427296.01), registered at Business Centre, Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, Sharjah, UAE.
- Blanket Legal Ltd, a private limited company incorporated in England and Wales (Company No. 16991632), registered at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.
- Succession Labs, Inc., a Delaware corporation, registered at 251 Little Falls Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808, USA.
By accessing or using the Platform, you expressly acknowledge and agree to these Terms.
2. Our Services
Blanket provides a self-help digital platform that enables users to create, store, and manage personal legal documents, including wills and powers of attorney, using automated tools and templates (the "Services").
2.1 Self-Help Platform. Blanket is a technology platform, not a law firm. The Services are provided on a self-help basis only. We do not provide legal advice, legal opinions, or legal representation. The availability of jurisdiction-specific document templates (including for the United Arab Emirates or England and Wales) does not constitute the provision of legal advice or reserved legal services.
2.2 User Responsibilities. You are solely responsible for:
- the accuracy of the information you provide, and
- deciding whether the Services are appropriate for your needs.
2.3 Document Preparation Features. Parts of the Service use automated tools that help capture your instructions, prepare document drafts, and support the review of your documents. Drafts and suggestions generated by the Service may contain errors. Our document preparation workflows combine these automated tools with human review steps as described on the Platform. Section 5B and our Privacy Policy explain how information you provide is used in connection with these features.
2.4 Jurisdiction-Specific Services. Certain Services offered on the Platform are designed to facilitate the creation of estate planning documents intended for use in specific jurisdictions, including but not limited to the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
(a) UAE Services. Services relating to wills and powers of attorney intended for registration or use in the United Arab Emirates are facilitated by Blanket Technology FZE.
(b) UK Services. Services relating to wills intended for use in England and Wales are facilitated by Blanket Legal Ltd through the Platform.
3. Account & Security
To use the Services, you must register for an account. You agree to provide accurate and complete information and to keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account.
4. User Eligibility
Our Services are currently designed for:
- Expatriates residing in or owning assets in the UAE.
- Users at least 21 years of age with the legal capacity to contract.
5. Fees, Payments & Merchant of Record
5.1 Pricing. We offer transparent, one-time pricing for our document packages. Current prices are displayed on the Platform at the time of purchase, including for any optional add-ons such as additional jurisdictions or powers of attorney. Government, court, notary, and registration fees are not included and remain your responsibility unless expressly stated otherwise.
5.2 Merchant of Record. To ensure secure transaction processing, Succession Labs, Inc. acts as the Merchant of Record for the Platform.
- Billing Descriptor: Charges on your bank statement may appear as "BLANKET", "BLANKET.AE" or "SUCCESSION LABS".
- Payment Processing: By inputting your payment method, you authorize Succession Labs, Inc. to process the transaction on behalf of the relevant Blanket group entity providing the Services (including Blanket Technology FZE or Blanket Legal Ltd, as applicable). This payment fully discharges your obligation to us for the purchased services.
5.3 Refunds. Due to the digital nature of the Services, access to the documents is immediate. Therefore, all sales are final and non-refundable once payment is confirmed and access is granted.
5.4 Purchases Made for You. Where you have given your permission, a third party, such as a professional adviser or firm participating in the Blanket Partner Programme, may set up or pay for a Service on your behalf. Your relationship with Blanket remains governed by these Terms, the documents are prepared for you, and your account and its contents remain yours. We show that party your progress with a Service only where you have been told they can follow along.
5A. Blanket Care Membership
5A.1 Overview. Blanket Care is our annual membership for keeping your documents up to date. It includes ongoing access to will updates and the other member benefits described on the Platform or at checkout. Where your purchase states that Blanket Care is included, your first year of membership is included at no extra charge.
5A.2 Billing & Renewal. Unless you cancel, membership renews automatically each year at the annual price shown at checkout when you purchased, or as later notified under Section 5A.5. Where your first year is included, the first renewal charge is taken on the first anniversary of your purchase. We will send you an email reminder before each renewal charge.
5A.3 Government Fees Excluded. Membership covers Blanket platform fees only. Any government, court, or registration fees (including but not limited to DIFC or ADJD will registration fees) are not included and remain your responsibility.
5A.4 Cancellation. You may cancel your membership at any time by contacting hello@blanket.ae. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current membership year, and no partial refunds are issued for unused time. If you cancel during an included first year, you will simply never be charged for membership.
5A.5 Changes to Membership. We reserve the right to modify membership pricing or included features. Any price changes will take effect at your next renewal and we will notify you by email at least 30 days in advance.
5B. Your Content and How We Use It
5B.1 Your Content. "Your Content" means the information and materials you provide through the Service, including your answers, instructions, uploaded documents, the stories and preferences you describe during intake, and your interactions with the Service, together with the documents generated for you. As between you and Blanket, you own Your Content.
5B.2 License to Blanket. You grant Blanket a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, reproduce, and display Your Content to operate the Service, prepare and review your documents, provide support, and comply with law, and to use Your Content and data about how you use the Service to develop, train, and improve Blanket's own models, features, and services. Where we use Your Content to develop or train our models, we de-identify personal data where reasonably practicable.
5B.3 What We Do Not Do. We do not:
- sell Your Content or your personal data;
- use Your Content to train general-purpose models offered to third parties; or
- permit the third-party technology providers that power our features to retain Your Content or train their own models on it.
5B.4 Aggregated Data. We may use aggregated and de-identified data that no longer identifies you, without restriction, to operate, secure, and improve the Platform.
6. Intellectual Property
The Platform, including all code, content, visual interfaces, and the "Blanket" templates, is the exclusive property of Blanket and is protected by international copyright and trademark laws.
License: We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, personal license to use the Platform to create and store your own estate planning documents.
Restrictions: You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or reverse engineer any part of the Platform.
7. Data Privacy & Security
We take your privacy seriously.
Data Controller: Depending on the nature of the Services used, your personal data may be controlled by one or more Blanket group entities, including Blanket Technology FZE and Blanket Legal Ltd, as applicable. Further details are provided in our Privacy Policy.
Data Processing: You acknowledge that your data is securely processed and hosted in the United States (Succession Labs, Inc.) and other jurisdictions, in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We use bank-grade AES-256 encryption to protect your sensitive information.
8. Liability & Disclaimers
8.1 "As Is" Service. THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE PLATFORM WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR THAT THE DOCUMENTS PREPARED WILL ALWAYS BE SUITABLE FOR YOUR SPECIFIC LEGAL NEEDS.
8.2 Limitation of Liability. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- (A) BLANKET SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA OR FINANCIAL LOSS.
- (B) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE.
9. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
9.1 Amicable Resolution. We prefer to resolve concerns directly and efficiently. Before filing a claim against Blanket, you agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting hello@blanket.ae. We will attempt to resolve the dispute informally by contacting you via email. If a dispute is not resolved within thirty (30) days of submission, you or Blanket may bring a formal proceeding.
9.2 Governing Law. These Terms and any non-contractual obligations arising out of or in connection with them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the Federal Laws of the United Arab Emirates as applicable in the Emirate of Sharjah.
9.3 Jurisdiction. The parties hereby agree to opt-in to the jurisdiction of the Dubai International Financial Centre ("DIFC"). Any dispute, difference, controversy, or claim arising out of or in connection with this Agreement, including (but not limited to) any question regarding its existence, validity, interpretation, performance, discharge, or termination, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the Dubai International Financial Centre (the "DIFC Courts").
9.4 Small Claims Tribunal. Notwithstanding Section 9.3, if the value of the claim is less than AED 500,000, the parties agree that the dispute shall be adjudicated exclusively by the Small Claims Tribunal (SCT) of the DIFC Courts. This ensures a faster, cost-effective resolution for consumer disputes.
10. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice on the Service prior to the changes taking effect.
Your continued use of the Service after changes to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service.
